Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has a secret ending that unlocks only when players remove all nuclear weapons from their bases in the game. While this cutscene on PC was only discovered two years ago from a game bug, it was never actually unlocked by players… until this week.
Each version of Metal Gear Solid 5 on platforms has a different number of nukes. You can track this number from the fan’s website. The PlayStation 3 version finally magically dropped to zero on July 27. Though the number quickly jumped back to 40, the number and duration lasted long enough for the special cutscene to trigger. You can watch the clip below.
The community’s efforts have always wanted to have this ending scene for a long time regardless of the platform. The Steam version of MGS5 has close to 20,000 kernels while the PlayStation 4 version has around 2,500. Chances are, these versions won’t get that cut scene anytime soon.
This cutscene was enabled on the Steam version from 2018 due to a game bug: When a player builds too many kernels, the server’s counting system jumps to zero.
For the time being, we can enjoy the fruits of the hard work of loyal fans of Metal Gear Solid 5 on PS3 as we strive to bring peace to the world!
