1. Horikoshi Jiro (The Wind Rises)
Horikoshi Jiro is the main character in anime The Wind Rises. He was born at the intersection of old Japan and new Japan with a strong love for the air and dreams of flying an airplane to conquer the sky. However, his dream encounters an insurmountable obstacle: Jiro is severely nearsighted and cannot become a pilot. Inspired by Caproni – an Italian aeronautical engineer, Jiro decided to design his own planes for Japan. Later, Jiro became a fighter design engineer and found his other half – Naoko, a small, weak girl, but always beautiful, loving life.
However, later on, Jiro’s precious designs soon became ashes in the defeat of the Empire of Japan, he was left alone in regret and loneliness when Naoko died of tuberculosis. 2. Haku (Spirited Away)
Haku is a magician working for Yubaba, his other form is a white dragon. Like Chihiro, Haku has long since lost his real name by Yubaba, but he still remembers Chihiro’s name. Haku is often shunned by the bathhouse staff because they think he is a henchman for Yubaba. He is the first person Chihiro meets in the spirit world, and is also her closest friend.
Haku always wears white because the Chinese meaning of the name “Haku” means white. He is a very brave and mature person with a beautiful and delicate face but still has a hint of masculinity. The sharp green eyes made Haku’s face even more impressive. In order to hide Yubaba’s eyes, Haku’s exterior always showed a cold attitude towards Chihiro. 3. Amasawa Seiji (Whisper of the Heart)
Amasawa Seiji is a 15-year-old violinist who attends the same school as Tsukishima Shizuku. Seiji is a confident young man who has devoted his love to Shizuku throughout his youth in school. When they first met, Shizuku had no sympathy for Seiji. But during a wander to the antique store and Seiji, she begins to admire his talent for making pianos. They played together and sang Country Roads in Japanese. She was surprised to learn that Amasawa Seiji was the same person she had met before.
During the later part of the series, it can be seen that Seiji is a very delicate and compassionate person. His affection for Shizuku is very clear, especially at the end of the film, the two watch the sunrise in Tokyo and Seiji promises to marry her in the future. 4. Sho (The Secret World of Arrietty)
Sho is a 12-year-old boy with heart disease and lives at his aunt’s house. Because of the disease, Sho cannot lead a normal life like other boys of the same age. Sho has always been a very quiet and polite person. However, at first, he appeared indifferent and pessimistic because he thought he could not live long with heart disease and that he would not be able to make it through the surgery.
However, everything changed when Sho met the little girl Arrietty. The two became friends and both of their lives began to change from there. Sho treated Arrietty with his kindness, sincerity, gentleness, and patience. Thanks to the love for the little girl, Sho had the courage to fight the disease and overcome his fate.
5. Pazu (Laputa: Castle In The Sky/ Laputa – Castle In The Sky)
Pazu is an orphaned miner boy who lives alone in a small hilltop house in Slag Ravine. After he caught Sheeta falling from the sky, he took her home and cared for her until she woke up. Pazu’s father was a pilot and a lost adventurer. His father once took a picture of Laputa but was not trusted by everyone. Even so, Pazu believes that the city exists, and hopes to one day find it himself.
After hearing Sheeta’s story, he vowed to help her. Both have been through a lot. Chased by the Pirates as well as the army. In the end, both were captured by the army. But, Pazu is freed upon Sheeta’s promise to stay with them and help them find Laputa. Pazu is a brave, kind and often protective of Sheeta.
