Banning “cool” characters, Japanese games threatened to boycott by fans

At the event Nintendo Direct took place last September 4, Nintendo officially confirmed Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FEone of the shining jewels of Wii U will be upgraded on Nintendo Switch with the name Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore. The game is slated to release early next year. This would have been good news for fans if it hadn’t been for a lot of controversy: Will the game be heavily censored, making the character design 180 * like the original version?

We all know, Japanese culture is a bit “weird” and “different”, so to avoid products sold abroad facing public reaction, from comics, animations to video games. All have to go through certain image editing stages. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is a prime example.

Compared to the Japanese version, the international version of this game was “censored” so quickly that many gamers mistakenly thought they were playing a completely different game. From extremely sexy and seductive shapes, the characters now have to dress tightly from head to toe. Not only that, hundreds of lines of dialogue and scripts were also changed or cut. This of course makes many gamers feel very unhappy.

According to the trailer announced at Nintendo Direct, there is a high possibility that Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore will still keep the “closed gate” character as the original version. Although this does not affect the game much, resentment is inevitable because who does not like to “wash their eyes” with hot and sexy characters. Moreover, this censorship policy is set by the Nintendo publisher itself, not the government or any external factor that requires the game to be changed. Many fans also threatened to boycott Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore if it still created such a tight character from head to toe.

It is known that Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore will add many new characters, new missions and even new songs for players to discover. There are still a few months before the game is officially released, whether Nintendo will change to meet the requirements of gamers or not, we can only wait.
