In spite of City of Heroes first developed by Cryptic Studios and Paragon Studiosthe ownership of this superhero game IP belongs to the publisher NCsoft. Launched in 2004 and since then City of Heroes has attracted a large number of players while maintaining a lively and vibrant spirit in its community. However, after 24 free updates and 2 paid expansions, NCsoft closed City of Heroes on November 30, 2012. However, NCsoft secretly filed a new trademark application for City of Heroes. Heroes on December 4, 2019.

Since City of Heroes closed, many publishers have tried to buy back the IP from NCsoft, but no one has been able to reach an agreement with the Korean giant. Is NCsoft trying to revive City of Heroes to save their “growth potential” in the Western market? Or is a new City of Heroes game in development? The truth is that Paragon Studios has shut down and Cryptic Studios is busy developing Magic Legends. The upcoming City of Heroes game can’t be exactly the same as the old version because the trademark application highlights the keyword “new”. Hopefully NCsoft will give an answer soon.
