Last year, following the passing of YouTube star Desmond “Etika” Amofah, fans got together to paint a 40-foot mural in Brooklyn in his honor. And now, after the publisher campaign Nianticthe above mural has become a PokéStops in Pokémon Go.
This idea appeared last November and was initiated by a fan Etika. After that, publisher Niantic opened the Wayfarer program that allowed players at level 40 and above to suggest PokéStops, and the campaign took place.
As of this week, the official Etika memorial is a PokéStop complete with the description “In memory of the passing of Etika, forever JoyconBoyz” (JoyconBoyz is the nickname Etika gave to fans). If you have the opportunity, you can visit the mural located at 1280 Myrtle Avenue in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
