Hearthstone players in China get 8 Free Card Packs upon login.
Taking place from October 1 to 8, Hearthstone players in the China region will receive free card packs to celebrate National Day, the annual celebration of the People’s Republic of China. Log in daily and play against an opponent that will reward each player with 1 Frzozen Throne Card Pack.
The above information is taken from Weibo through a post on reddit.
Why do we care about this?
Firstly, everyone wants to know what’s going on in HS, so that it can be compared to Blizzard China region. They have a lot of special things that we don’t get in other Hearthstone regions (like app get the index of China), we can use events like this to give feedback to the development team so Blizzard knows what we players want.
Blizzard, don’t give us free card packs for any reason, we don’t want them at all.
This reminds us of Ben Brode’s earlier quote earlier this year, “It’s important to keep Hearthstone alive”, Blizzard says we’ll have more special events in the game, starting with “Free Card Day“. Then we see “Midsummer Fire Festival” – summer festival, the Frost Festival – winter festival, and more recently Pirates Day – day of pirates. It’s understandable that larger events usually take longer so we haven’t seen them much yet, but at least Blizzard has been honest with us! I believe events will continue to be released faster with smaller events taking place in rotation.
When you compare Hearthstone to World of Warcraft, there are tons of things that Hearthstone can borrow to make a good game. If you don’t know much about WoW, here are the facts they usually have
-
Event Holidays (holiday events) – Dozens of annual events to celebrate real-world holidays like Halloween and Easter.
-
Micro Holidays (mini event) – one or two days mini event to keep players coming back.
-
Bonus Events (additional events) – Weekly events to bring you back to the old game content, PvP mode, worlds, etc.
Remember these 3 things
The Little Things, “Small Holidays”
Giving away a card pack for a small event is a very easy thing to do and a great gesture for the community. If you look at the beginning of August, you will remember that Wild Packs appeared in the shop on the Battle.net website. We’re encouraging players to participate in this mode more than before, but why not celebrate the anniversary of the Hearthstone expansions that have been released before?
-
On the day the new set comes out, give a card pack for that set
-
With adventures mode, give players dust.
Here is a list of the release dates of the previous expansion sets:
-
League of Explorer – 11/12
-
Mean Streets of Gadgetzan – 01/12
-
Goblins vs Gnomes – 08/12
If things get confusing because the release dates for these sets are so close together, Blizzard can spend a week out of every four months giving away packs of that set, and have a special Brawl event – only those that will be used are allowed. cards from those sets – possibly from pre-build decks (pre-made decks) because chances are the player won’t have cards from the old sets.
Tavern Brawl, let’s talk about this one. It would be nice if Heartstone’s birthday (March 11) would have something instead of silence.
Tavern Brawls, “Additional Events”
Like WoW, we’re pretty lucky to have extra weekly events where players can log in and have some extra fun, but does it have to be repetitive?
-
In total 119 Brawslwe have 67 repetitions. Accounting for 56% total amount of brawls!
-
In 2017, we have before 39 brawls already. Among them, there are 22 repetitions – again the ratio 56%.
I hope this is just a coincidence and not Blizzard’s long-term intentions. It would be better to see a variety of new brawls for everyone to play rather than the old ones that were there before. Even slight changes to individual brawls don’t count towards the innovation list!
It would be interesting if we could see an updated graph of how many brawls are played weekly, like the one shown at BlizzCon 2015, to demonstrate that it’s worth it to replay old brawls. Does the player decrease depending on the mode or is there more and more people joining? What about repeat brawls? What if Blizzard didn’t count people who only played one game for the card pack?
It will be even more interesting with the appearance of Heroic Brawls (Hero participates). Obviously, it will be easier for players to join Heroic Brawls. Why don’t we try changing the design of the Brawl button based on the week? Such a change may attract curious players to click on it.
It will be great if Brawls and Heroic Brawls can run together when we have more Heroic options. This helps us see more Brawls as every player can try out strong decks.
Holiday event
One of the segments that Hearthstones needs to pay more attention to. We don’t need to completely copy the structure of World of Warcraft. There are many world holidays we can celebrate in our own way.
We currently have two before the world events that were held in Hearthstone, and people are coveting these events even more.
Winter Veil
-
The first annual event takes place near Christmas time
-
The goal is to give away card packs to players participating in brawls (nothing new after that)
-
Updated Stormwind and Orgrimmar game tables with more snow
-
Same with WoW, why not give more gifts (arcane dust) so players can create their own cards? WoW have this every year
Tet
-
Theoretically, this is the first annual event, but nothing special.
-
The welcome emote changes with Heroes if you are a Chinese or Korean user.
-
Luck is the key part of this event. Can be used to reward through the amount of gold or gradually increase the amount of gold rewarded after each play
Mid-summer
-
Recently added.
-
Double the Gold from Quests! Good Idea
-
Special Brawl: when the Hero is Ragnaros, the player can activate interesting emotes.
-
It is unknown if the event will return next year. Because it was the Frost Festival launch event with this year’s Frozen Throne expansion.
We need more!
It’s quite strange that we still don’t have holiday events, despite adding “Midsummer” is huge in the game. Let’s hope Blizzard adds something to Halloween or a new update to the Winter Veil.
The author himself wants to add something about Easter so that players can go hunting for bunnies (or eggs), and the Oktoberfest (Brewfest) event can offer extremely good ideas for the bunnies. Hero to launch fun new emotes.
Epilogue
Hearthstone is slowly evolving and adding brand new content, not counting expansions, but Blizzard has a lot more to improve and tell us players.
-
More major holiday events to encourage players to log in and receive rewards when they win.
-
Adding small events to keep the game fire is also not a bad idea, worthy of encouragement.
-
Brawls repeat too much at alarming rates. Why don’t we add anything new?
It doesn’t matter what the author says, it matters what people think about it.
What events do you want to add to the game and how do you want them to work?
