The first place for the finals of ESL One Birmingham 2019 will be for the winner between PSG.LGD and Evil Geniuses in the winning bracket – the losing team will drop to the losing bracket final.
EG entered the winning bracket finals after eight consecutive wins in the group stage before LGD ended that number. Both teams then advanced to the playoffs and performed exceptionally well for a rematch – this time in the final.
Game 1, LGD continuously put the North American boys in a passive position with Queen of Pain and Sven. However, as the match dragged on, EG began to fight back and promote their odd catch. It wasn’t until the 40th minute that EG found the opening to win game 1 against LGD.

With the intention of taking revenge on the group stage, EG entered game 2 stronger. LGD completely succumbed to the pressure the opponent put across the map, constantly making mistakes to give EG the advantage. After half an hour, EG completely dominated the match and did not give LGD any more hope.
That’s GG! @EvilGeniuses closes out Game 2 against @LGDgaming to make it a 2-0! The EG 3rd place curse is finally broken! ? #ESLOne pic.twitter.com/zDKXsgsX9V

PSG.LGD was forced to knock GG not long after, giving EG a place in the final of ESL One Birmingham 2019. PSG.LGD still gave themselves a chance to participate in the grand final in the losing bracket.
With this victory, Evil Geniuses has broken the “curse of three” and will surely be at least in the top 2 at this event.
