Dota 2: How to counter Clinkz patch 7.30

Clinkz currently dominates the pub as well as the professional arena. Patch 7.30 replaces Clinkz’s familiar “Strafe” skill with the new Burning Barrage. This skill channel fires a volley of physical arrows through targets and procs all attack modifiers (like lightning, crit jumps, slows for example). In short, this move grants Clinkz the same mechanics as Pangolier’s Swashbuckle.

Burning Barrage not only gives Clinkz the ability to farm creep waves and camp satck super fast, but it also makes items like Maelstrom extremely effective. Maelstrom’s cooldown is about 0.2 seconds while Burning Barrage fires at 0.5/0.48/0.45 seconds respectively (with a level 20 talent it will be 0.34/0.33/0.32/0.3). That is, each shot can proc lightning from Maelstrom, not to mention each shot will hit many targets, so it will almost be lightning many times. The new Clinkz works like a Drow or a Sniper with Shadow Blade, instead of a solo ganking hero like before. The big difference the article wants everyone to note is that Clinkz has a latent durability thanks to Death Pact, different from the traditional blood heroes.

In the past, the best way to counter Clinkz was to exploit Clinkz’s slow last hit animation and go together early. The new way of countering Clinkz is not much different, but Clinkz will now focus on farming rather than going solo. Putting pressure on early game plus playing with stealth is a must. The tip to deal with Clinkz here lies in the heroes that can be drafted in the team. The heroes handled by Clinkz are divided into the following two groups:

GROUP 1: DAMAGE REDUCTION

Overall, Clinkz is still a damage-focused hero: you want to be in a safe position and shoot freely. Any target that stays in Clinkz’s range for too long will be on the board unless there’s something red that can stop this continuous damage. Patch 7.30 has an equally hot hero, Omniknight. Omniknight possesses a very annoying skill set for Clinkz. Not only providing healing, Omniknight also has a dispel, enough to help teammates escape Clinkz’s effective attack range. Heavenly Grace also buffs strength and restores HP, making it much harder to kill Clinkz’s fast hero. Not to mention, the hero also has Guaridan Angel, which almost eliminates the impact of Clinkz in combat for up to 8 seconds. That time is more than enough to help the team turn the game.

There are many other heroes that possess damage reduction skills, like Pangolier for example. Some have a rescue mechanism that makes Clinkz unable to deal damage, like Shadow Demon’s Disruption. These are heroes who have the tools to counter healthy Clinkz.

GROUP 2: DIRECT HUNTING

At the beginning of the article, the author compared Clinkz with Drow Ranger and Sniper. Like those heroes, Clinkz really wants to avoid being approached by enemies. This helps us open up a clear strategy to deal with Clinkz. Any hero that can jump directly onto the target is fine here. More specifically, heroes that tank or are difficult to keep are highly effective. Slark holding Skadi will be an obsession for Clinkz because the hero has to constantly avoid Pounce/Shadow Blade and Slark can escape easily with Shadow Dance. Void Spirit and Earth Spirit are also suitable candidates. These heroes play actively and have low cooldown mobility, which is very beneficial for catching Clinkz. Meanwhile, traditional ganking heroes like Batrider and Spirit breaker are also on Clinkz’s list to fear.

In addition, there are two heroes worthy of separate mention in group 2. The first is Lycan. Lycan before when there was a Necronomicon book completely crushed Clinkz. Even without Truesight and Purge, Lycan is still very difficult to handle, even if the opponent is a good Clinkz player. On the one hand, Lycan can destroy all towers and finish the game before Clinkz can farm enough items. On the other hand, Lycan is currently the best hero to chase the enemy and not let him escape.

Sven takes a different approach than Lycan. Sven outfarm Clinkz quite easily and this networth advantage may be enough to help Sven win the opponent. In addition, Sven also adds armor to the whole team and can get a reasonable item to jump in to ‘make salad’ Clinkz in a few seconds.

Remember, Clinkz has one main mission: Keep a distance far enough from the enemy to deal damage. Breaking this playstyle is the fastest and easiest way to stop the hero from messing around in pubs.
