In response to the ongoing wave of hacking in Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft is preparing a plan to ensure its anti-hacking efforts. More specifically, like CS:GO, the upcoming game will require “two-factor authentication” for all players who want to participate in Ranked.
The number of hackers spiked in the community when Operation Para Bellum was about to be released last month. YouTubers complain that hacking is becoming more and more common in high-ranking matches and exploiting game bugs in many ways, like the defender shifting to the attacker’s starting position at the beginning of the match. Ubisoft did not announce anything until today.
According to the developer, a game bug was fixed today. The team also improved their “internal game fix efforts,” meaning they can detect more bugs in the future before they appear in the game.
Playing with a higher skilled player is not inherently a bannable boosting situation.
Increasing your rank via playing with someone who is cheating is.

On July 16, Ubisoft will ban about 600 players for using the boost rank service. Boost rank is when players hire hackers to play in groups to push their rank up. Rainbow Six Siege now rewards weapon charms at the end of the season, depending on their rank. A few weeks ago, Ubisoft updated the Code of Conduct to add a rank boost ban.
Other options being considered by the development team include increasing honesty in the game and combating rank boosts, like limiting the MMR distance between teammates in Ranked. This means that Bronze players cannot play with you at Platinum rank. Although inconvenient, many other competitive games like Overwatch have also adopted this system. The article also briefly mentioned the plan to improve the reporting options in the game, currently there is only one button “report toxic behavior”. Another feature that Ubisoft also takes into account is that it does not count MMR lost or gained in matches with the presence of hackers.
There’s currently no exact date for this to be updated, but Two-factor authentication is currently being tested so this will be the first change players will encounter.
