Gamescom: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice released a spectacular gameplay trailer

Set in feudal Japan in the late 1500s, FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will bring the studio’s popular game approach to the new title. With ideas from the Dark Souls and Bloodborne series, the team debuted the Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice gameplay at GamesCom with the official release date confirmed to be March next year.

The new gameplay reveals several features that players are expected to use a lot in the game. The main highlights are the main character’s prosthetic arm, stealth gameplay, and the respawn feature that appear in the trailer. As for the prosthetic arm, it’s used as a tow hook to get to high places, something we’ve never seen in previous FromSoftware games. With this feature, the team gives players more options to explore the world of Sekiro.

In addition to the above ability, the game also introduces stealth gameplay, using tow hooks as well as basic approaches such as standing close to the wall or hiding in the corner waiting for the enemy. Along with the stealth gameplay, we also see the “Shinobi death blow” – it resembles the high-pitched ace of the Assassin’s Creed games. The goal here is for players to take advantage of the altitude as well as add different combat options. FromSoftware designed the enemies and gameplay of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice to suit different play styles.

We also got a look at how the respawn feature in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice works in the game. While it can resurrect the player on death, you must kill at least one enemy on your second life to be able to respawn again. FromSoftware also confirmed that the in-game respawn feature is not yet complete, and that the demo at Gamescom will use the system.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was first revealed at the 2017 Game Awards last year, before being revealed again at E3 this past June. The game is inspired by the Bloodborne and Dark Souls series, the FromSoftware team also explained that the new action RPG game will be much more difficult than the previous installments. Part of that is due to the game’s lack of multiplayer, which means players will have to figure out how best to outmaneuver their enemies in a fully single-player experience.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice launches on March 22, 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
