CSGO: A guide to using bots for tactical training

Valve recently removed bots from matchmaking modes because of their practicality. However, these bots are still great tools to help you practice tactics in CSGO, specifically utility (flash, smoke, molotov).

Bots in CSGO matchmaking are said to be useless. However, in the offline server, they can help players improve themselves in the map. With bots, you can practice prefire and see how well your flash and smokes work before you jump into matchmaking.

Instructions to remove bots in CSGO

Create a practice server by selecting “practicce with bots” in the Play CSGO options. You will connect to a server with 9 bots available – but they can interfere with the training process. For smart use, players will definitely want to delete all bots and keep only one in the server.

The private server has self-regulating settings that can be changed with the command “sv_cheats 1”. Enabling cheats in the offline server allows you to remove and add bots to your liking. Open the console and enter the command “bot_kick”. All residual bots in the server will disappear, leaving you to practice alone. Players can add bots one by one to test tactics at locations they want to use.

Instructions for using bots in solo practice

Although the game has its own public servers to practice prefire and use utilities, the private servers bring more benefits to the player, allowing you to find new strategies and implementations. Here’s how bots can help you in your self-training sessions.

Once you’ve removed the bots in the game, you can add them one at a time in the locations you want. Type “bot_add t” (or CT depending on whether you are on CT or T) into the console to make the bot appear in the offline server. New bot can make shooting target.

For example, stand at A Main in Mirage and place the bot on the stairs by typing “place_bot” in the console. This command will put the bot to rest right where the crosshair you are pointing at. From A Main, players can practice corner pre-fire. This is a common position for CT AWP to look at A Main when they bombsite A.

Bot in the offline server can help you test the effectiveness of smoke blocking vision. For example, players can place bots in the phone booth (CT area), a popular AWP location.

You can use “noclip” to see if the thrown flash blinds the bot. Bots can help players create new smoke and flash locations throughout the map. With just one command, you can use bots in hundreds of different ways in training. Tactical practice before entering the match is important to win.

Server Deathmatch also helps you improve your gunfight in solo phases. However, practicing utility and understanding the map in the offlane server is also essential if you want to win easily.
