Valve just updated its CS:GO trade rules last week, and a large part of the community is very upset about this. Under the new rules, any CS:GO items you receive via trade will be locked for 7 days. This prevents the recipient from continuing to trade with others immediately.
The purpose of the rule is to prevent Steam accounts from auto-trading too often through third-party services, Valve said. “Unfortunately, some third-party services have become phishing tools. Unlike players, these services depend on the ability to trade items with intensity. In contrast, an item between two real players doesn’t move more than once a week, in the vast majority of cases.”
Valve admits this change will affect “some players”, and of course the reaction from the community speaks for itself. They filed a petition saying that the regulation “destroys the trading system in general” and that it should be scrapped. This petition has garnered more than 100,000 signatures. This change also affects betting with CS:GO skins, as well as players who trade items back and forth.
Prominent traders and pro players have spoken out against the update, including popular Astralis AWPer, Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz. He said on twitter that the regulation will not be able to prevent scams. “The only party that benefits from this update is Valve, and the amount of money they get from the Steam Market through this regulation.”
