In an “operational policy update” posted early on December 3, YouTube announced a series of changes to Content censorshipfocusing on the difference between the element violence in the real world, and violence is staged or simulated in games.
Starting December 3, violent content staged or simulated in games will be classified in the same category as other types of scripted content, rather than actual violence before. The video contains violent in-game content when uploaded may also be approved and is not subject to age restrictions.
This means that the number of videos with age restrictions due to violent scenes in the game will be reduced. However, clips/videos showing “bloody” scenes, or focusing on violence, may still be age-restricted.
YouTube’s advertising policies remain the same, so violent videos still have a limited ability to run ads.
