2017 was a year filled with CS:GO tournaments. Good players travel around the world many times to participate in LAN events with a total prize pool of millions of dollars. Sometimes, many LAN tournaments overlap on weekends, but that shows that 2017 was a great year.
Of course, the quality of the tournaments is not always the same. The vast majority are great while a few events have technical glitches. All in all, there weren’t many disasters, just not what we thought.
Let’s find out what the pro’s really enjoyed this year and which of the 2017 tournaments they want to return to 2018.
Jonas “Lekr0” Olofsson, Fnatic
ECS Cancun, we haven’t played there yet but for now everything is fine. But if I had to choose the event that was perfectly prepared, I would say DreamHack Malmo, I really enjoyed that event. It was so wonderful, and I think it was very beautiful, and then it was held in Sweden. Although we can’t do our best for the home fans, next time I really hope that we will play for the home team.
Jake “Stewie2k” Yip, Cloud9
I would choose ESL One Cologne, because I think ESL is always very well managed, and they are very friendly. I know them and now they are like my friends, they are so kind. Very helpful team, never complained about a thing.
About the tournament, there are a lot of die hard fans there. Last time there were 12,000 people, and each team had their own fans. You can hear Cloud9, FaZe, SK, or other teams, so it’s good to play in Cologne because I feel like there’s a lot of community here. No one is the same, all love Counter-Strike.
Joshua “jdm64” Marzano, Team Liquid
I’ve come across this question before, and the answer is always Mykonos. I would love to go back to Mykonos. I mean because it’s Mykonos. That place is really beautiful. Just like in Cancun. I enjoyed the beautiful setting and the environment there. It’s… it’s amazing and I just want to come see it.
I feel like I don’t want to have to hold it in the same place. Better than holding a tournament like Cancun every 6 months or so, that would be perfect. I love the big stages. I love playing in front of a crowd and it keeps me motivated. It gets me excited. I think it should be done every five or six tournaments.
Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander, Astralis
If I could choose one tournament I want to play next year, it would probably be ESL One Cologne because we weren’t there in 2017, so I’d love to play there in 2018.
Robin “ropz” Kool, mousesports
I think it’s Mykonos, because the team really won there and the tournament has a lot of beautiful scenes placed in the tournament. I think Mykonos is the one I want the most.
Freddy “KRiMZ” Johansson, Fnatic
I know I said this already, but it’s still ESL One Cologne. It’s a very cool tournament. The venue and everything: it’s a very special tournament for every player. I can’t describe how I feel playing here because it’s so emotional and it’s really good.
Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth, Astralis
The ELEAGUE Major was great because we won it, so if we can go back and win it again, that would be great. But I think an event like the BLAST Pro Series held at home and supported by everyone is one of the most memorable.
ELEAGUE has always been a great organization, very professional and always helping the players and other things, but I don’t think there is a bad league right now. Everyone treats the players well, everyone has a professional demeanor, good visuals, everything works smoothly, so I don’t have any priority awards, except for events in Denmark because they mean a lot to us.
Adam “friberg” Friberg, OpTic Gaming
I didn’t attend this year’s EPICENTER but I heard that everyone loved it. I was at EPICENTER last time and I really enjoyed it, so hopefully we will see more EPICENTERs. They’ve really improved and invested a lot in it, which makes for a good tournament.
Russell “Twistzz” Van Dulken, Team Liquid
ESL One Cologne. I think Cologne will always be there, but it was the first tournament I played on such a big stage with such a large audience, and it was amazing.
Chris “chrisJ” de Jong, mousesports
If ECS is going to hold a tournament like this as long as everything goes smoothly, then I will keep going here. [Cancun – ECS] or places like that. Same with ESG Tour Mykonos and of course we got very good results so that creates a good memory of the event, in addition to the beautiful views. I don’t think every tournament should be ‘out of the box’ but it’s good for once in a while.
Finn “karrigan” Andersen, FaZe Clan
There were so many events this year that went great. One of the events that I always want to go to is ESL One Cologne. Cologne is very special in my heart. I’m half-German and there’s a German audience, so it’s a venue and a venue where no team has 100% fan support. There are no home fans, everyone is cheering for each other. I mean ESL did a great job keeping Cologne warm and always sold out. So I think it’s always been an event I want to go to every year because for me, there wouldn’t be a summer without Cologne.
