“We won Cobblestone because of SmithZz”

Thanks to his contributions to G2’s success at DreamHack Masters Malmö, Kenny “kennyS” Schrub received the title of MVP of HLTV.org. After the awards ceremony, HLTV spoke with the French sniper about the team’s journey at this Swedish event, the great performance from Kenny “kennyS” Schrub in the playoffs and especially the final where he shined. Light to help G2 defeat North. Overall, kennyS has a rating of 1.22, giving him the 4th MVP title of the year.

After awarding the MVP medal to kennyS, HLTV chatted with him about the match against North, the influence of Edouard “SmithZz” Dubourdeaux, and the team overall.

Let’s get straight to the point, can you tell me a little bit about your feelings about the last match and the championship?

When we entered this match, we felt very confident, because we played really well throughout the tournament. Yes, I think our shared feeling is of course very happy, but not just happy about winning, but happy with the way we played in this whole tournament.

Tell me about Cobblestone, it was a tough start for you, MSL played well, they took a lot of rounds. How did the team come back in that game?

To reverse that map… I think we won the whole match thanks to SmithZz. We paused, he gave advice, and we followed that advice, for both rounds and we won both rounds. That gives us the opportunity to plan better. Those two rounds helped us win, so Cobblestone is entirely SmithZz’s fault, so thank you SmithZz.

Can you tell me what he said? And how does the team comply?

He called position 3-2B, on the platform and dropped. Basically he said so and we followed through for two rounds in a row and won both.

In the semi-finals, the team faced NiP, it was more like a match between him and draken, when both played extremely well. Tell me about that match and when I encountered the draken?

It feels real, I really enjoy fighting draken because I feel like I’m fighting myself. I think I have a slight advantage because I probably have a bit more experience. Because he plays like me – almost exactly – I can read draken.

Although I probably killed the draken more than the draken killed me, he was really good at playing. And I’m glad that an AWPer like you is playing for NiP. I also feel a bit proud, because I know that the draken is quite similar to me and that he is a player like me, so that makes me a bit happy.

We’ve noticed that the boddy has something on his arm, and it feels like he’s not having a good tournament, if you look at the numbers. Not sure if there is a problem or not?

I don’t know, I feel like we played well in the key moments, which bodyy does too. But, he has a problem with his wrist right now, that’s why he wears it on his wrist. Basically, he feels pain every now and then, but I think he’ll be fine soon. No matter what the numbers say in this event, I still think we all played well and did our job well.

This tournament has a different coach rule, and you mentioned that SmithZz helped the team. What do you think of these new rules and would you like to see them in other leagues?

Of course we want to see more freedom for the coach, and like I said, we beat Cobblestone because of SmithZz. So again, obviously we want to see those rules because it’s in our favor, SmithZz is very important to the team.

Do you have any final words, you won the MVP, the team won the award, do you want to say anything more?

Thank you HLTV.org for this award, I think this is the 4th of the year. I am very happy. Moreover, I am very proud of my team, of my teammates because the period before the break was difficult. We had to swallow a lot, especially at the Major, so I’m glad we can come back. So thank you, thank you G2, and everyone, the staff and everything.
