Right before the first International tournament held in China, Virtus.pro changed its brand name. The new logo will be geared towards the Chinese community and exclusive to TI9.
Posting on Virtus.pro’s website, the Dota 2 CIS team said that the strategic brand with bold Chinese imprints was collaborated with Russian design partner, Quberten Design.
Many design elements have been changed, VP will trade the familiar orange with red – the auspicious color of the Chinese people.
The Chinese Dota 2 community has its own nickname for Western players. This time, VP will use them and print their flower nickname along with the in-game nick.
Virtus.pro’s nickname in Chinese is ‘Wei Pi’, which has the same sound as the word VP. It translates to “strong blow,” referring to Virtus.pro’s gameplay, and is incorporated into the new logo.
“August was full of good news for us,” said Roman Dvoryankin, CEO of Virtus.pro. The team launched a separate Weibo account and profile picture for the main esports event of the year. I hope the players will show great Dota performances at the tournament. China is a strategic market for us, and we strive to respect and pay attention to local traditions.”
This isn’t the first time VP has rebranded TI. They used to do that when collaborating with Megafon, changing from the familiar color set to purple and green. While that branding changes for the entire organization, the Chinese design this time around is only for Dota’s TI9 event.
Virtus.pro will attend TI9 with a new design. Will the boys live up to everyone’s expectations, or will they fall before entering the top 4 again? The International 2019 begins August 15.
