A Japanese man has just been arrested for illegal acts affecting the 18+ film industry.
Earlier this week, Kyoto police arrested a self-employed suspect named Masayuki Nakamoto, 43, from Hyogo Prefecture, western Japan. Nakamoto was arrested for posting and selling adult movie videos that had been processed by artificial intelligence (AI) to “clarify” the censored portion of the original content. This is a violation of copyright law as well as Japan’s pornography law, which prohibits the display of “inappropriate content”.

This is not the first time Nakamoto has committed a crime. Previously, Nakamoto was accused of infringing the copyright of a video production company in Tokyo on January 9, for using software to process a pornographic video that made it look like when parts of the image were sensitive. sensor is not blurred. Nakamoto created erotic images from the video and uploaded them to his own website, displaying them to an unidentified online audience.
According to the police, Nakamoto created this website in November 2020. The suspect uses a deep learning model called “TecoGAN” to increase the resolution of pixelated images, re-process the video according to the customer’s request. Nakamoto sold more than 2,500 videos, earning about 11 million yen ($96,000).
Japanese police have been searching for those who use deepfake technology to swap celebrities’ faces with pornographic actors, even conducting three simultaneous raids and arrests last year. These guys were later charged with copyright infringement and defamation. However, this is the first time an arrest involving AI video editing software has been made.
