Often the stories of players getting permanently banned from an online game are because they intentionally cheated. However, this has never happened to a modder who was permanently banned for creating photo mode.
Ubisoft has decided to permanently ban Matti Hietanen for creating a photo mode mod for the game The Division. Speaking of getting banned, Hietanen said:
Whoops.
Worth it tho. pic.twitter.com/TbRT7aepFd

In the past, Hietanen has created photo mode software for games like Battlefield 1, Dark Souls 3, and Star Wars Battlefront. They all use software designed by him, called Cinematic Tools. While Cinematic Tools was created to help players capture the stunning views of the game, Hietanen thinks the reason he was banned in The Division was because he used the Cheat Engine (which allows players to cheat) to create it. out it.
As he said in the tweet, he feels the account suspension is well worth the pictures some players have taken in the game.
The creative director, Julian Gerighty, later contacted Hietanen via Twitter, saying they would look into the matter and that he was a fan of Hietanen’s project. While Hietanen may be banned for the time being, it won’t be permanent as the e-mail says.
Hey Matti, I’ll check this out today. Love your work and would like to see more.

While Ubisoft reserves the right to ban players for using mods that violate the Terms of Use in their games, it doesn’t appear that the company wants to permanently ban players who create mods for the sake of entertainment. Actually, photo mode can attract more players to this game, as long as they know what they are doing.
Whether or not Hietanen gets banned remains to be seen, but at least a few players managed to capture some of the best in-game moments with this software (and possibly in violation of the game’s rules). .
The Division is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
