According to the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo will not just launch one new console, but will sell two Nintendo Switch lines in the coming months. One of the consoles will have more “enhanced” features, and it’s designed with die-hard Nintendo fans in mind. However, the configuration of the machine will not match the Xbox One X or PS4 Pro.
The other version is described as “the cheaper option, seen by Nintendo as the successor to the aging 3DS handheld…”
According to the WSJ, Nintendo plans to announce new Switch consoles at E3 this June, and then sell them “several months later,” likely during the holiday season. A representative for Nintendo declined to comment when asked by the WSJ.
The source explained to the WSJ that the new consoles are not what you think. “You would be wrong to think that the enhanced version is similar to what Sony does with the PS4 Pro and the other version is just a cheap version similar to older handheld systems, like Sony’s PlayStation Vita.” reported by the source.
Interestingly enough, the WSJ claims that the low-cost Switch version will remove the vibration feature of the controller to cut costs. The source did not mention the price of both these machines.
In other news, the WSJ reported that Nintendo is working with Sharp to produce screens for the new Switch lines. This company participated in a bid to produce screens for early Switch consoles but lost.
The Switch is Nintendo’s hugely successful console. It sold more than 32 million units worldwide in less than two years, double the total sales of the Wii U.
Microsoft is known to announce new hardware at E3 2019, while Sony’s rumored PlayStation 5 will also be revealed soon in the future.
