Twitch streamer Lirik has been temporarily banned from Twitch due to copyright infringement

Twitch streamer Saqib “Lirik” Zahid was locked out of his Twitch account on Monday due to copyright infringement, according to the streamer himself.

Lirik posted a screenshot of the copyright infringement notice he received from Twitch.

“We received an allegation of copyright infringement regarding your account,” Twitch wrote. The infringing content was caused by him livestreaming a European football match on September 10. Lirik was playing the new battle royale mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 when his account was locked.

“My account is locked, lol,” said Lirik. “What is it UEFA?”

Lirik’s stream has been reinstated on Twitch, but Twitch has not commented on the temporary shutdown. Looks like Lirik’s stream was taken down by mistake. Lirik then tweeted when the block was removed, stating that his channel is no longer banned. He said he will also take action because of this lock order.

“Twitch needs to follow the law when a DMCA like this happens,” Lirik said. “This is LAW. It’s not just about the company bookmarking my channel without doing thorough research. The fact that they can immediately ban is completely absurd. I will definitely get involved.”

In another tweet, Lirik said he wanted to get the full story of why this lockdown happened and how to avoid it in the future. “Ultimately, this is a DMCA order with no proof/reason given,” he wrote.

UEFA is the European football association, which oversees football in Europe. matches of the UEFA National League, the new international competition for national teams in the region, was in progress at the time his account was blocked.

It is not clear at what point the Lirik channel was involved in the UEFA National League matches of that day, as Lirik did not even know what UEFA was.
