The streaming industry has really exploded in the past year. Hundreds of thousands of people stop by every day to follow their favorite streamers. Then the mass media channels began to update the stream information, not to mention the exclusive deals signed with streamers from Mixer, YouTube, Facebook Gaming increased rapidly. Despite losing some of its biggest streamers, Twitch still had more revenue than YouTube in 2019.
Amazon’s streaming platform brought in $1.54 billion compared to YouTube’s $1.48 billion, according to data from SuperData. This number is even more impressive when you take into account the disparity in audience numbers.
Advertising revenue contributes the most to both Twitch and YouTube, however, Twitch is more profitable from subscriptions than the competition. Specifically, the report said that Twitch’s subscription revenue accounted for 8% of total revenue while YouTube’s was only 2%.
The report also looks at the impact of monopolies on the streaming industry. Tyler “Ninja” Blevins was the first to switch to Mixer and ignite the movement. Next, Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek and Soleil “EkOk” Wheeler also joined Microsoft’s streaming platform. Jeremy “Disguised Toast” Wang and Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios changed to Facebook, and Jack “CouRage” Dunlop signed with YouTube Gaming.
Meanwhile, Twitch also quickly signed Benjamin ‘DrLupo’, Saqib ‘Lirik’ Zahid, and Timothy ‘TimTheTatman’ Betar. It can be seen that this exclusive ownership will continue.
As SuperData points out, these deals are another source of income for streamers, but streaming platforms need to look to well-known names to turn them into a viable long-term investment.
Now, streamers may not need to worry about subscriptions or viewership anymore, but things are now more risky. Let’s wait and see, Twitch, Mixer, YouTube and Facebook will see how signing in 2020 will help them achieve success.
