The sudden death of mangaka Kentaro Miura has caused a stir among Japanese manga and anime fans. Recently, thousands of Final Fantasy XIV gamers have paid tribute to him.
Yesterday (May 20), the official Twitter account of the Japanese manga Berserk posted shocking information for fans. Accordingly, author Kentaro Miura unfortunately passed away on May 6, leaving the series still unfinished. After the tweet was posted, the global manga and anime fan community expressed shock and regret.
Kentaro Miura’s career is associated with Berserk, one of the best dark fantasy manga of all time. Published in 1989, released 363 chapters, so far Berserk has always kept the heat for more than three decades. The manga has built up a huge loyal fanbase and a strong foothold in the Japanese manga industry.

Regarded as one of the most successful manga in Japan and around the world, IGN has called Miura’s masterpiece “one of the most influential series of all time”. Much of later fiction, from video games to manga and anime, was partly influenced by Berserk. For example Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, Demon Slayer, Castlevania and Vagabond.
According to Kotaku, after the author’s death, the community of Final Fantasy players “meeting without appointment” gathered to pay their respects to him. Without Berserk, we would not have the image of Cloud Strike wielding the giant sword in Final Fantasy VII, an icon of the JRPG series. In Final Fantasy XIV, Square Enix will also not bring a Dark Knight character class, inspired by the character Guts.

At the Balmung server of the North American server cluster, thousands of unscheduled gamers lined up, creating an endless trail full of Dark Knight characters. All created a very indescribable atmosphere as they tried to pay their respects to a man they had never met. According to author Kotaku, the Guts character’s theme song also played on the Balmung server, causing her to burst into tears of emotion.
PCGamer notes that the number of players participating is increasing, with photos and videos being shared on the Reddit community page and the social network Twitter. Starting from Balmung, the funeral was held on other servers such as Cactuar, Leviathan, Midgardsormr, etc. Too many players logged in, causing the Square Enix server to sometimes be congested.
Miura may not have entered the video game industry, but his “invisible” contribution will always be remembered by the gaming community.
