More than 20 years of launch, Pokemon has become the most popular brand in the world with revenue recorded up to 95 billion dollars. The number of new Pokemon has also increased over the years, from 151 at the beginning to more than 900 today. When it comes to Pokemon, Pikachu Definitely a name not to be missed. It is considered a symbol of the brand with the shape of a yellow mouse, two red spots on the cheeks that can emit electricity. So, up until now, most of us used to think that Pikachu was inspired by mice but no, the truth is that the original Pikachu was inspired by a Japanese cake.

To create hundreds of Pokemon as we know it today, of course the designers had to spend a lot of time and effort. Every character created throughout history has a clear origin, although sometimes inspiration is taken from something quite ridiculous. For example, Trubbish, for example, was inspired by the design of … a trash bag. Pikachu, the brand character is no exception, according to the latest revelation from designer Atsuko Nishida, the original design of Pikachu is far different from the image we still know today: “The first prototype I designed. for Pikachu to be a daifuku-like creature with long ears.”

For those who don’t know, daifuku is a Japanese cake with different colors. Surely many people are very curious to know what their original appearance will be like, but unfortunately, all data about this original design of Nishida has been erased, there are no drawings on paper nor are there any drawings on paper. Are there any software files? Maybe one day, Nishida will continue the idea, creating a new Pokemon character with a lovely shape like daifuku cakes? Sounds pretty cool and very desirable, doesn’t it?
