This is Sony’s artificial satellite, launched into space at the end of the year, paving the way to build Metaverse

With Sony’s artificial satellite, anyone can completely see the air.

Sony has collaborated with the University of Tokyo and the Japan Aerospace Agency (JAXA), jointly developing an artificial satellite under Sony’s Star Sphere project. Their goal is to equip a full-frame camera on the satellite, allowing anyone to shoot and take 4K quality selfies of the air and Earth.

The Star Sphere project started in 2017 and by 2020, Sony has given the green light to do business. In 2021, the artificial satellite and the updated set of control and tuning applications are completed, ready for launch into space in 2022. Last month, Mr. Yoshihiro Nakanishi, Director of the Star Sphere Promotion Office, demonstrated an invention concept for a building project.

According to him, more and more businesses are participating in the air sales industry. Sony has partnered with the University of Tokyo and JAXA, wanting to provide experiences and services that help shorten the user’s {distance} from outer space. Japan’s Big Corporation Randomly hopes that anyone can easily operate an artificial satellite through a computer, from which to take selfies and film in space.

Sony is in charge of the streaming element, including a full-frame mirrorless camera, and a remote-operated application system. The camera is tightly attached and fixed to the satellite body, capable of 4K recording. The University of Tokyo is developing propulsion and charging, while JAXA provides expertise in all aspects related to the air engineering project.

Sony’s satellite has a length of about 30cm, quite small size, with 2 solar-charged charging wings. It is expected to be launched into Earth’s atmosphere at {distance} 500 to 600km. The orbit has not been determined but it is quite possible to revolve around the blue planet 15-16 times per day.

There will be 3 mechanisms considered “Earth” (a panorama of the Earth plane); “Satellite” (clearly see the shifting orbit of the satellite to aim at the desired shooting position); finally “Camera” to see the view of the camera.

According to the sales representative, Sony will launch the Star Sphere satellite on October 12, 2022. The first few months are a period of operational stability. In the early spring of the new year 2023, the satellite selfie service officially came into operation. However, the price for us to use has not been decided yet. Sony says it will be at the “appropriate” threshold and is still exploring the market.

One of each issue being considered is the development of service legislation, avoiding misunderstandings by users. The quality of the product is highly dependent on the climate and Sony cannot control this factor.
