However, it seems that the “toys” in Battlefield 2042 are also about to become a reality today when recently, a weapons company has just launched a robotic dog carrying a gun on his back similar to Battlefield 2042.

Specifically, semi-automatic rifle manufacturing company SWORD International and Ghost Robotics have teamed up to produce a special purpose unmanned robot, with a quadruped design, and carrying a large gun on its back. SWORD International said that this armed robot dog has a new name, SPUR (Special Purpose Unmanned Rifle) or “Special Purpose Unmanned Rifle”.

It bears a terrifying resemblance to the metallic creatures seen in popular sci-fi movies like War of the Worlds, or the murderous robot dogs in Black Mirror’s Metalhead episode and even in Battlefield. 2042 just came out recently too.

SPUR was launched at the annual convention of the United States Army Association in Washington, DC, this week. SWORD International did not disclose design details but said that the SPUR’s 6.5mm semi-automatic gun on the back is capable of accurate fire from 4,000 feet. SWORD International says that SPUR is “unstoppable, with the ability to get back up instantly in the event of a fall or breakdown.
