Recently, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that this masterpiece will be adapted into a TV series on HBO. The post-apocalyptic film project is being led by Craig Mazin – who worked with HBO on the miniseries Chernobyl and is currently writing the script for the Borderlands movie project. Mazin will work with Naughty Dog vice president Neil Druckmann, director and story writer for both The Last of Us and The Last of Us. The Last of Us 2 to write and produce this TV series.
Evan Wells, President of Naughty Dog, will also join the project as executive producer alongside veteran HBO producer Carolyn Straus. HBO announced the project yesterday with an image of a firefly against a black sky – this is the symbol of a militia group in The Last of Us, hinting that the TV series will be released soon. Mazin and Druckmann plan to include the events of the original game in the HBO series, while The Hollywood Reporters also added that there will still be additional content, additional details coming from The Last. of Us 2 is about to be released.
The Last of Us first launched in 2013 on PS3, the game was ported to PS4 the following year. Sony has sold 17 million copies of the game on both platforms: in the game players will experience an emotional, thrilling story of survivors Joel and Ellie as well as a cross-country trip their team in search of a cure for the plague that has ravaged America. The sequel to The Last of Us is scheduled to be released on May 26 on PS4.
