The Outlast Trials co-op horror game announced

Outlast and Outlast 2 are the two scariest horror games of the past decade, thanks to their graphics and dark locations. While an Outlast sequel was confirmed in 2017, many horror fans of the game are beginning to wonder when developer Red Barrels will think of a sequel. While Outlast 3 has yet to be shared, the Red Barrels are ready to reveal a new nightmare. Recently, the studio announced The Outlast Trials.

The Outlast Trials will be different from its brothers in the Outlast series. Specifically, The Outlast Trials will be multiplayer. According to Red Barrels, The Outlast Trials allows players to “confront the horrors that await” by themselves or with friends being experimented with. This shows that The Outlast Trials can be played solo or coop. However, we don’t know if this will be a competitive game or simply coop.

The game is confirmed to take place in the world of Outlast, but whether it’s linked to Outlast 3 or its predecessors is unknown. The game will take place during the “Cold War era”, which is from the mid-1940s until the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991. In other words, the game probably won’t use a small handheld camcorder.

The last information that Red Barrels shared about The Outlast Trial was a teaser image with three men wearing night-vision glasses. This leads us to believe that this will be a VR game, but Red Barrels repeatedly confirm that it is not.

For fans of the original Outlast series, fear not. Outlast 3 is still in development. The Outlast Trials is something Red Barrels has worked on before, but is still in the early stages of development. Red Barrels said they’ve completed the “concept” for The Outlast Trials and are “now focusing on content creation, variety…and gore.”

The Outlast Trials still has no release date or platform.
