CS: GO pro always has highlights that make you gasp in surprise. But sometimes, your mouth is still ‘open’, not because the processing phase is too good, but because they are too ‘bare’. Here is a list of the dumbest moves of 2017 in the professional CS:GO scene.
CLG and defuse the bomb without a kit, even though there is a kit – DreamHack Valencia
If there’s one thing you can learn from this phase, it’s to make sure you defuse the bomb in time without a kit, if your teammates are still alive with the kit, give them priority. As always. CLG learned this lesson when they defused the match point bomb against Red Reserve on the final map of the decider of Group B.
After a successful retake bomb site A, koosta – without a kit – started to defuse the bomb, ignoring the teammate standing next to him holding the kit, FNS. FNS might have defused the bomb in half the time, but they didn’t swap places. FNS started scratching their heads as the bomb went off faster and louder. And koosta still holds E until… bomb explodes. The score was 15-13 in favor of CLG but they couldn’t end the game because of that silly bomb disposal.
After a bad handling that allowed Red to pull back a round and put CLG in a weak position, Red successfully pushed the game to overtime – CLG should have won and entered the playoffs in the previous round. Unfortunately, this mistake made CLG pay a heavy price: losing the final 28-24, a humiliating result when leaving such a painful exit.
k0nfig’s ‘chym’ (knife) phase – ELEAGUE Major
Just because it works, doesn’t mean it’s not silly. The ‘chym’ phase of k0nfig in the overtime to decide who gets to the next round is a prime example. North and GODSENT both have 2 wins and 1 loss, which means that the team that wins this match will get a spot in the Major and claim the Legend title.
Regardless of the importance of the match, k0nfig no longer has enough health to rush, with only 2hp. Just one bullet from znajder could finish him off, but k0nfig still calmly pulled out his knife and went to znajder – who just needed a flick of the mouse to get on the board to lose this round. Surprisingly, k0nfig still survived the biggest phase of 2017. North didn’t lose this round but it must be said that it was heart-stopping because of k0nfig’s confusing behavior.
TaZ shoots like silver – StarLadder Season 3 Finals
As caster Ander put it, “best fail of the tournament”. TaZ was standing on a crate in the connetor when fer snuck through the smoke but couldn’t detect TaZ. The Poland international decided to be patient and let fer move forward into A.
He gently landed on the ground, rummaged behind fer’s back but still couldn’t find the 2nd member of SK, so he decided to ‘kill’ fer. Oh come on, spray fail is indescribable. Too bad is different. This gives fer a chance to turn 180 degrees and ‘touch’ TaZ, leaving him dumbfounded.
K0nfig’s sneak shot failed – IEM Sydney
In this 1v1 situation if k0nfig is full of ammunition and successfully sneaks, then there is nothing to talk about. But with only 5 in the ice, you can see TACO’s body.
K0nfig started firing at TACO, the first few missed. He was forced to reload when the last bullet left the ice, allowing TACO to find cover and calm down to win the 1v1 gunfight.
After fiddling around a bit, TACO put k0nfig on the board with a headshot, stealing North’s win, giving SK an 11-10 lead. A seemingly smart and perfect processing phase ended up being too bitter because it didn’t reload when there were only 5 rounds left. SK eventually won the map 16-14, forcing us to think: “what could have happened if k0nfig had loaded before?”
Fer’s unnecessary aggressiveness helped NEO cling to a chance of survival – DreamHack Las Vegas
Even though SK won the next round and also the first map of the finals, the fer handle was unnecessary, allowing NEO to win the round that should not have happened. NEO is forced to retrieve the bomb with only 9 seconds left, while fer calmly waits behind the A door to interrupt NEO when returning to the site.
A quick peek from the SK member forced NEO to return fire, but fer handled it smartly when he forced NEO not to have enough time to plant the bomb.
When NEO started planting bombs and realized that he didn’t have time, that was when fer showed up ‘whole’ in front of NEO. Fer rushes through the door and into the bombsite, giving NEO a chance to come back as he sees fer on the board and helps the team survive another round. His teammate pashaBiceps took off his headphones because he thought this map belonged to SK. Fer really ‘throw’ an unworthy round.
Shroud gives a bomb to the enemy – ECS Season 3
In a 3v2 situation before fnatic’s force-buy round, shroud was carrying a bomb through the smoke into the connector while his teammate took over site A. flusha dealt with the NA player when he decided to push through the smoke, giving away a gun. AK and the bomb for flusha, putting the remaining 2 Cloud9 members in a difficult position.
Flusha then used the AK he picked up to take out n0thing when he got the bomb back, while a long rotation from JW won him a gunfight against Skadoodle on A Main.
Shroud then revealed his decision on Twitter afterwards, to give everyone a better understanding. Unfortunately, this phase let them lose the situation to a 3v2 player before a force buy phase and captured the bombsite.
For clarification of my play. I knew I had bomb, thought I heard a step from Z to heaven cubby/old bomb with his smoke that he threw from Z.

To explain. I know I’m holding a bomb and I think I heard footsteps from Z to heaven cubby/old bomb with the smoke that the enemy threw from Z.
TyLoo’s landing phase – ESL One Cologne
TyLoo entered a round force buy and adopted a tactic that has become increasingly familiar at Cobblestone – shooting into the wall near the drop area to mask the sound of teammates jumping off the ground. This created a lot of situations as the opponent wasn’t sure if anyone jumped down, forcing them to send a guard to keep the spot from being attacked. Of course, this only happens if everything above goes right.
TyLoo’s communication didn’t go as planned, when somebody blasted the Tec-9 tape into the wall before his teammates could jump off, causing Cloud9 to hear footsteps in the drop area. From there, Skadoodle and shroud created the perfect crossfire. The idea may be great, but when it comes to practice it’s “oh that’s it”. TyLoo is quickly spoiled by Cloud9.
