The most disappointing games of 2017 (Part 2)

Star Wars Battlefront II

The most controversial game of 2017, Star Wars Battlefront II, would have been a great game, if its developers hadn’t let money control their souls. That’s a bit too much to say, but it’s clear that EA has gone too far in “seeking profits” with this game. Right after the game launched in September, gamers realized that everything they wanted, such as different characters or spaceships, was in one package of “premium content”. It’s almost an option players can’t refuse, and it’s only natural that they have to spend more money to buy more things they should have after buying the game.

Things are even worse, when the things players want the most are in the “loot box”, a kind of “lottery” where the player needs a lot of luck to be able to open the desired item. . These chests can be earned by players during the game, but as many people calculate, they will need at least 40 hours to unlock a “hero” or “villain”. Feeling too long? Then please spend your money. EA doesn’t say that, but they designed the game to make players do it.
After a lot of complaints, now, EA has made significant improvements to its “money making” mechanism in Star Wars Battlefront II. However, even so, the worst has happened, and the impression of the game as well as the player’s company will be difficult to improve.

Friday The 13th: The Game

The story of the immortal killer Jason has always been one of the most beloved horror themes in cinematic history. Therefore, it is understandable, when Friday The 13th: The Game received a lot of anticipation from gamers when it was born. However, instead of experiencing the mixed feelings of horror and excitement in the true horror genre, all gamers receive is disappointment. Technical errors, boring maps, weak servers… all make gamers feel like staying away from games that are crowdfunded like Friday The 13th: The Game.

Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor was once one of the best games of 2014 because of the innovation in its gameplay (and also because there weren’t too many good games that appeared that year). Therefore, its Shadow of War sequel was once highly anticipated in the production process. However, when the game came out, it didn’t live up to those expectations.

Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War is not really a bad game, but gamers have set their hopes too high because of the success of its predecessor. In fact, the game was unable to overcome the huge shadow from Shadow of Mordor. Must know, Shadow of Mordor once succeeded by innovation. After 3 years, everything is still the same with a few minor additions, making the innovation old and disappointing.

Not stopping there, the game also encountered an extremely serious scandal when the publisher wanted to sell the DLC for the purpose of supporting the family of a recently deceased member of the production team. However, in the end, only a very small part of that money goes to the family. This is the drop of water that overflows the glass, besides the “re-emergence” of the “loot boxes”, causing Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War to be boycotted by many gamers.

ARK: Survival Evolved

ARK: Survival Evolved used to attract tons of players during testing, but became a disappointment after the official release. During early access, the developer added a lot of small features, which ultimately did not help the game go beyond the inherent experience.

Should, in that lengthy process, things like bugs or technical issues that need to be fixed, in the end still exist in the official version. In addition, the experience for individual gamers is also problematic, as it takes them a very long time to enjoy the main pleasure in the game: riding dinosaurs.

In short, after a long early access process, players were expecting more in the official version. ARK: Survival Evolved didn’t do that, so it failed.
