The creator of Valorant will handle the harassment of female gamers online

The pledge comes after League of Legends designer Riot Greenily posted a short clip of her livestream, exposing harassing behavior that she faced while playing Valorant.

Greenily shared a short clip of her conversation with another player in Valorant and tweeted, “Almost ALL the TIME stories are like this on voice chat when I’m playing alone, every game. I don’t support behavior like the one in the video; I usually stay quiet so as not to provoke more. But there will inevitably come a time when you’ll have to mute these players.”​

Valorant executive producer Anna “SuperCakes” Donlon responded to Greenily’s tweets, promising upcoming changes to the title that will create a safer environment for female player: “This is disgusting, this gives me goosebumps. This is why I can’t play alone. I’m sorry about what happened to you. We’re looking at long-term solutions to the problem. ensure safety when playing VALORANT – even when playing alone!”

Anna’s promise has prompted many other female developers to speak out about their own experiences of harassment while playing the game. Valorant depth and strategy analyst Riot Aeneia described her encounter with a gamer she couldn’t mute because it could “sabotage the team’s strategy”.

Riot Games first revealed the multiplayer shooter in March. In Valorant, each character has unique abilities, in addition to traditional weapons like in Counter-Strike. Since the beta launch in early April, it seems that many players and streamer Overwatch has moved to Valorant.​
