Striking Distance Studios, a young company founded by Glen Schofield – the creator of the horror game Dead Space, has just announced a new PC horror game project, which is well appreciated at The Game Awards 2020. Many people hope this will is the modern version of Dead Space. Called The Callisto Protocol, this is a sci-fi horror game, scheduled to launch on PC and console in 2022.
The Callisto Protocol PC horror game project was announced with a cinema trailer – a 2-minute trailer set in a place that looks like a prison or is actually a prison. The prisoner was awakened by a loud noise, with a message from the warden asking everyone to report back to the main security area. The prisoner realized that the security robot outside his cell was not working, and then suddenly a monster (thought to be a fellow inmate) attacked him from behind.
The setting of The Callisto Protocol takes place on a transport ship called Charon and when the trailer ends, the Charon has reached its destination, the Black Iron. The video shows an isolated planet, as if it were to hold prisoners. Apparently, the Charon is bringing Black Iron’s nightmare, though we don’t know what it is yet.
On Twitter, Schofield said that the Striking Distance Studios team hopes they will “create the most horror game of all time on pc”. If anyone can fulfill that promise, then that person can only be the creator of the Dead Space series. We will have more information about The Callisto Protocol in the coming months.
One thing not mentioned by Striker Distance is another game being developed by the studio. Striking Distance is known to be working on a spin-off to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, with a greater focus on plot. It is not clear whether this project is still in development or whether Striking Distance focuses all of its resources on The Callisto Protocol.
Although The Callisto Protocol is not related to PUBG, that does not mean that the two games have no relationship. Striking Distance was founded by Krafton and The Callisto Protocol will be published by Krafton. Krafton is the parent company of PUBG Studios, so the two games are also related in a way.
The Callisto Protocol will launch in 2022 on PC and consoles.
