Sony stops production of Vita game tapes

For a long time, Sony’s PlayStation Vita is no longer considered a formidable opponent in the battle of the systems, but the Vita community is still quite large. For Vita fans, this news will be quite disappointing when Sony decided to stop producing game tapes for this system.

This news comes from the game developers for Vita. They must submit all production claims by June 28 of this year. Of course, this does not mean that the PlayStation Vita is over, as the digital version continues to operate normally in the PlayStation Store.

This move is not too surprising if not inevitable from Sony, when it no longer supports this system fully three years ago. At that time, Sony announced that it would not develop any games for Vita. While Sony is a big player in the gaming industry, that doesn’t mean its resources are limitless, and they’re forced to focus on PS4 support and, rumored to be, PS5 development.

In addition, the huge success of the Nintendo Switch also played an important role in the final chapter of Vita. There was a time when Sony’s portable game console was arguably the most powerful in its market. Unfortunately, when the Switch was released, it could run the vast majority of AAA games without much difficulty.

However, Vita is still alive. For PlayStation Plus members over the years, they’ve continued to keep Vita games free, so their game library will be what keeps players on Vita. Free Vita games will continue to be added every month, but not forever – PS Plus will stop supporting Vita and PS3 at the end of March 2019.

It seems, Vita owners will have quite a bit of time to enjoy new games for their mobile device. With the success of the Nintendo Switch continuing to grow, and Sony withdrawing from the market, the PlayStation Vita has lost ground in the console market.
