Is the age of robots coming?
With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the robots that humans make are getting smarter and smarter. From simple things like performing repetitive actions, copying to more complex things like self-learning, self-improvement. Now, AI has even evolved to a new level – self-reproducing.
It sounds ridiculous, but it’s 100% true. British engineers are working on a project that allows a robot to create new versions of itself. The next generation is more advanced, efficient and powerful than the previous generation.
Starting the project in 2017, researchers at York University, UK, in collaboration with Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands have built the world’s first self-replicating robot system. With an investment of $2.8 million from the British government, the goal of this project is to send self-replicating robots into space to conquer space.
Called RoboFab, this system is capable of pairing two suitable robots to create a “child robot” with the dominant characteristics of “father and mother”. The following new robot will be formed using a 3D printer. RoboFab has 4 main systems: 3D printer, storage, assembly and robotic arm.
After selecting and pairing, the 3D printer proceeds to create the detailed parts, which are then sent to the storage. Here, the assembly robot will build the frame and finally the arms will arrange and attach the small parts until complete.

At the present time, this project is still in the process of research and completion. And if it succeeds in the future, humanity will begin to get used to living with a lot of robots.
