As NHK reports, 52-year-old Yuki Saito, chairman of the wholesale chain operating Red Spice, was arrested along with her husband and two other accomplices. At the company’s warehouse in Aichi Prefecture, police confiscated 37,000 counterfeit products originating in China. However, all four suspects denied any wrongdoing.

It is known that most of the items are designed in the style of Demon Slayer, from clothes, wallets, scarves, backpacks, pillows, … of course, no products are officially licensed. Even more ridiculous, the manufacturers of these items also intentionally shuffled the title “Kimetsu no Yaiba” into similar phrases to easily deceive unobservant consumers, such as “Kimetsu” being replaced with ” Kanji metsu” (meaning “destroy”). According to Japanese authorities, even if the name “Kimetsu no Yaiba” is not completely printed on the products, such plagiarism is more than enough to constitute a crime.

As of this spring, the four suspects have sold about 1.67 billion yen (~350 billion VND). The company sells its merchandise to game centers and retail stores across Japan in the form of redemption games. The police are currently expanding their investigation to crack down on more smuggling rings like the one above.
