Death is a central theme in many of From Software’s games. The studio promoted the game by the difficulty as well as the number of times the player would die. And this will not be different with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, but the way we approach death will be different from previous From Software games.
In Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the player can revive. This will affect gameplay as well as the plot. According to director Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game will revolve around the idea of revival. From the gameplay side, players can respawn in creative ways to gain an advantage over their opponents, depending on the circumstances. Unfortunately, Miyazaki doesn’t give us any specific examples.
Since From Software has always been famous for its high difficulty in the game, some fans are concerned that a revival will make Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice too easy. However, Miyazaki also said that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has been scaled to keep the respawn feature in the game, and that without the respawn it would break the “tempo” of the game. For those who are worried that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will be too easy, it should be noted that the studio previously said the game will be more challenging than the Dark Souls series.
The ability to revive sounds like a good idea to help Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice stand out from other From Software games. Of course, Sekiro is not a “Soulsborne” game, so some significant differences are natural, but the difficulty and famous battle system of the studio will still be retained.
Although it looks quite similar to its predecessors, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is different in many ways. In addition to the respawn mechanism, the game also removed multiplayer, which was considered a key feature of the studio’s older titles, including the Dark Souls series.
From what we’ve seen, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is trying to be new, as well as familiar. Whether fans like this direction, people have to wait more, but with previous records, this will definitely be another masterpiece from From Software.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will launch in early 2018 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
