Scum sells 700,000 copies in just one week, wipes server data with new patch

Survival game Scum had a successful first week on Early Access: jumping into the top 10 games with the most players on Steam. The game has now erased everyone’s online character data in the new update. In addition, according to Scum’s Tweet, the game sold 700,000 copies, in just one week.

As for character data deletion, the latest update talks about an issue in single player save games, and fixing it requires deleting all online characters:

“In order to enable single-player storage, we need to change the save file format,” the patch note notes. “This means that all characters from all servers are deleted. Sorry for the inconvenience, we try to delete as little as possible. Please don’t forget that the game is still in development so things like this can happen.”

Currently, the online characters are completely lost. Surprisingly, the character in the singleplayer is still intact.

It’s a pity that all online characters have been removed from all servers, but something like this happens sometimes in Early Access. This can be frustrating when you log into the game and find everything is gone, especially since in Scum you not only collect items but also build and improve skills while playing.

Plus, the patch also says “first batch of server optimizations will reduce lag,” with admin commands for singleplayer games, and fixes every number of bugs. This patch also adds gun turrets remembering the character if detected once. From now on, you will be warned once if detected, but will only be warned once. If seen again, they will shoot you immediately.
