Thanks to the easing from Sony, Rocket League is now truly cross-playable on all platforms. Fortnite is the vanguard of this trend.
Cross-play will be the next direction of the gaming industry, allowing gamers to play together no matter what system they are using. Fortnite was the first game to support cross-play on all platforms and now Rocket League will follow in the footsteps of the battle royale game with more features.
Rocket League players on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Steam can play together. You will need to make sure the “Cross-Platform Play” box is checked in the “Gameplay” section if you want to play against other players. However, Psyonix has yet to support cross-platform partying and has confirmed that the feature will be available in the first update of 2019. In the meantime, players will still be able to play with friends on other platforms in matches. private.

Psyonix has been developing cross-play gameplay for a while now. The biggest barrier is Sony as they often create difficulties for developers who want to add cross-play to the game. But eventually, Sony has relaxed its policy and supported cross-play (experimental), with Fortnite and Rocket League being the two main games supporting the feature.
Actually, Rocket League has been supporting cross-play for a while, just not on PlayStation 4. This change is very welcome and hopefully we will soon have more titles with cross-play support on PlayStation 4 in the near future.
