As promised before, Rocket League is officially open for free on the Epic Games Store platform. Although not benefiting from Steam anymore, the spike in players on Epic and consoles has made the game server server unbearable.
The Rocket League server crashed not long after the game was available to download and play for free. The issue affects “online play, challenge and tournament,” according to developer Psyonix on Reddit. On Twitter, they said part of the server crash was because Rocket League is currently using Epic’s online service
Twitter Rocket League promises “more information will be updated”. Even on Steam, where Rocket League can only be played with a previous game purchase, the game is close to hitting a new continuous player record on Steam. The count at the time of writing is just a few thousand away from the record of 119,337 players in March (As noted from SteamDB).
