Some senior leaders of CD Projekt Red held a conference call with investors to talk about the explanation for this change. The studio explained that Cyberpunk 2077 ready to run on PCs and even next generation consoles. However, the development team is finalizing versions for PS4 and Xbox One.

When it comes to the new release schedule, CEO Adam Kicinski shared that this decision to change was not easy but necessary. Cyberpunk 2077 only has one chance to make a first impression, and a good chance is directly proportional to higher sales. The director said: “A good first impression is always beneficial to the sale of the product. That is why we decided to delay the release date. The extra time helps us ensure that the game will have full content when it comes out.” In addition, director Kicinski explained that CDPR is planning some “organizational changes” with future projects because “so much work has been piled up at the end”.

To explain why Cyberpunk 2077 is release date delayed 21 days later, the developers of CD Projekt Red wrote: “Cyberpunk 2077 is certified gold, which means the game is ready, complete, and full of content. But that does not mean that we will stop developing and improving the quality of the game. On the contrary, this is a time when many improvements are being made and players will experience them through the Day 0 patch. This is a period of time that we have missed.”
