The upcoming Sunday, January 21 will mark the 20th anniversary of the release of Resident Evil 2 and the remake of the game that has been in development for many years. There hasn’t been any announcement yet regarding the game’s 20th anniversary, but Capcom has begun posting a mysterious image on Twitter.
If you just glance at it, the image is nothing special. However, when we look closely, we will discover some interesting details, which may reveal information about the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake. For example, the item in the lower left corner of the image looks like a typewriter – this is the item that gamers use to save games in Resident Evil 2 and other older Resident Evil 2 games.
Another notable point in the picture is the fake finger placed on the window. If you remember, the prosthetic finger is an item that players can find in the demo of Resident Evil 7, but it has no purpose at all. Capcom could add fake fingers to the picture just to poke us, or does it mean something else about the upcoming Resident Evil game – something that may not be related to Resident Evil 2.
Good morning, everyone! (from the US) Hope you all have a good day! 🙂 pic.twitter.com/g8OQ94ju2D

The fake finger could imply that Capcom is planning to announce something related to Resident Evil 7 instead of the Resident Evil 2 remake. One possibility is that RE7 can be ported to the Nintendo Switch, which is understandable given that Capcom increasingly wants to support Switch.
If this announcement is indeed related to Resident Evil 7 instead of Resident Evil 2, another possibility is that Capcom plans to release more DLC for the game. Just last month, Capcom released the final DLC pack for Resident Evil 7: Not A Hero. This DLC features an appearance by Chris Redfield and the ending of End of Zoe, but it is possible that the company has ideas to develop more content later for the game.
What Capcom intends to announce is still a mystery, but they are certainly preparing to tell us something related to Resident Evil. Recently, Capcom announced an updated Resident Evil logo on their social media, and created a blank space on its website to make way for a new game to appear. Whether this is a Resident Evil 2 remake, or a Resident Evil 7 Switch port, or something else, we have to wait and see, but hopefully people don’t have to wait too long.
Resident Evil 2 remake is in development and has yet to be announced for any system.
