Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is a legend in the action, stealth genre.
Since its first launch in 2002, Splinter Cell is considered one of Ubisoft’s top franchises, along with other famous products also created by writer Tom Clancy such as Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon .
Basically, Splinter Cell can be seen as Ubisoft’s answer to Konami’s Metal Gear Solid series and gives gamers a more realistic, less anime-inspired approach to the plot.
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is the third major version and the best rated by the fan community in the series. It still revolves around the activities of Sam Fisher, but with a significantly darker tone. As a result, Chaos Theory became the first Splinter Cell game to receive an M rating (for adulthood) by the ESRB.
The game has added more stealth action options, allowing Sam to move more flexibly and give a more open feeling than previous games. In addition to the standard light gauge, the game also features an audio monitor that measures the noise Sam makes, along with ambient noise in the environment. So Sam had to make less noise than his surroundings, because otherwise the guards would hear.
Chaos Theory quickly became a commercial success, selling 2.5 million units across all platforms within a month of its release. The Xbox and PC versions of the game received critical acclaim, thanks to the gameplay and vibrant graphics of the time.
Currently, on the occasion of Ubisoft’s 35th anniversary, the manufacturer from France has decided to give away 100% of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory version for free. Those interested can download and play right here.
