The biggest PUBG tournament of 2018 is coming very soon, and the organizers of ESL and IEM have announced that PUBG’s prize pool will be up to 50,000 USD in this tournament.
16 teams will compete on February 24 and 25 at the IEM Exhibition in Katowice in Poland. Nine out of 16 teams will participate as invitees, with three teams each from the three regions of North America, Europe and Asia. The best 7 teams will play in a knockout with 3 teams from North America, Europe and South America if they pass the previous rounds.
“The 2017 IEM World Championship Katowice is the biggest esports tournament ever held in history, and with PUBG’s huge success in its debut at IEM Oakland, we’re thrilled. Looking forward to being able to organize a tournament of similar scale in this IEM”, said Michal Blicharz, vice president of ESL organizing committee, “The previous appearance of PUBG has brought excitement. It was a huge start for the audience at the arena and we believe it will continue to play its part this year at the IEM show.”
This will be the third PUBG event organized by ESL, and the first gamescom Invitation tournament since last August. And while everyone is extremely excited and looking forward to this massive tournament coming up, it shows that fans really want PUBG to become such an official e-sport. Anyway, that’s also why PUBG was brought back in IEM Oakland last year, providing a better experience for the tournament’s audience when watching.
The previous 2 events had the participation of 20 teams from different regions in Squad mode, but this time the number of teams is limited to 16, maybe this will help viewers feel less. stress when there are so many situations that they have to observe at the same time.
The qualifying round of the tournament will kick off on January 29 and 21, with 512 teams from all over the world competing to choose the final 7 places of the tournament. It has not been officially announced who are participating as invited teams, and it is possible that it will be announced in the next few weeks.
