PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ first map, Erangel, is ready for a remaster.
Erangel remaster
PUBG launched in March 2017 with the map Erangel. More than 2 years is a pretty long time so fans always want the first map of the game to be remastered. Erangel has always been a fan favorite, but PUBG’s hardware improvements have made it less flashy than the new maps.
The PUBG development team calls the new update an “update for Erangel” – but it’s still essentially a remaster.
PUBG development video
The updated Erangel Map was shared in PUBG’s development video on June 5. The video describes how the game has progressed along with an update on the changes to Erangel.
The new Erangel will be part of season 4 of PUBG, but players won’t have to wait long to find out. More details about season 4 as well as the start date are still unknown.
Comparative image of many areas inside Erangel showing the difference between the original map and the resmaster map. The main difference lies in the detail. The design of the building has also been changed, including a panoramic view of the Prison area and the houses in Erangel. Erangel remaster will not have a new area as previously rumored.
Play it out on the test server
PUBG Production Manager TS Jang said that the update will be played on the PUBG Steam Test Server this weekend, which is June 8. The test server will certainly have an extremely busy weekend.
Of course, the test server will be available on PC first compared to Xbox One and PS4 – the console version is usually updated months later. Quite surprisingly, PUBG Corp. has not yet released any information about this update on consoles – the game is currently having difficulty running the Erangel map at a stable frame rate on the console.
