PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will have a new paid event called the Event Pass that allows players to complete missions to receive attractive gifts.
The key point of the Event Pass lies in the missions that players can complete in the game. No examples were given, but PUBG Corp said there will be “dozens of missions” including daily, weekly and Sanhok-specific ones.
“Like the crate opening system, you get rewards in the Event Pass system,” explains PUBG Corp. “If you haven’t purchased the Event Pass yet, you can unlock temporary items (and get a special item forever). However, you can unlock special items forever by purchasing a Pass and completing certain quests to “level up” your Pass.”
PUBG Corp said that players can still join the quests if they stop being afraid to buy a pass, and the process is still saved. This way, if the player wants to keep the loot they’ve earned, you can pay for the Event Pass later.
Theoretically, the Event Pass sounds similar to Fortnite’s Battle Pass. In Fortnite, players do not need to own a Battle Pass to receive free gifts, but special items can only be unlocked by purchasing a Battle Pass. Fortnite has weekly challenges to help players level up their Battle Pass, and it keeps players coming back every week to complete missions.
The PUBG developer said that they have experimented with many ideas such as launching new content in the form of paid DLC, and discussed its effect on the rarity of the decorations. In the end, the team decided on the Event Pass concept.
The first Event Pass will celebrate the release of Sanhok map on June 22, and new items will follow the theme of this new map. Event Pass will air at the same time as above and last for 4 weeks.
Rewards received in the Event Pass are non-tradeable and they cannot be sold on the Steam marketplace.
