PS5: The device’s APU configuration has been exposed

According to the information obtained, the APU used in the PS5 is codenamed Gonzalo. This information is shared by Twitter users “TUM_APISAK” given.

This processor will be 8-core, running up to 3.2GHz. Most likely it will run on the Zen+ architecture. There are rumors that PS5 will run Zen 2 architecture. However, this processor is not yet available on computers.

Even though the PS5 actually uses the Zen+ architecture, it’s still a lot faster than the Jaguar APU currently used today. Jaguar APUs often appear in low-power devices such as tablets.

To understand the difference, Jaguar APU is currently present in PS4 Pro, clocked at 2.13GHz. If the maximum overclock to 3.2GHz, the chip’s speed will be noticeably faster.

What does this PS5 configuration mean?

First, for those who are not familiar with processors, RAM, GHz or computer hardware in general, APU stands for accelerated processing unit. Specifically, the APU combines the processor (CPU) and the graphics card (GPU).

Thanks to its low cost, APUs appear almost exclusively on consoles. Previously leaked information showed that AMD will be the chipset manufacturer for both PS5 and Xbox 2.

Experts on the PS5 forum suggest that the CPU can be 6 times more powerful than the PS4. As for the graphics, it’s not clear. According to TUM_APISAK, the NAVI architecture will be used, in the form of Navi 10 Lite.

GPU will be more powerful than PS4 is obvious. To make it easy to imagine, if taking 4K/60FPS, PS5 must run at least above 240 FPS (frames per second)!
