PS4 Emulator: What you need to know

PS4 gaming on PC is really possible: You can use Sony’s PlayStation Now streaming service to play, which lets you play games from the cloud on your PS4 or PC. But what about a PS4 emulator so you can play using the PC hardware itself? Is the computer powerful enough to run the PS4 emulator? Is PCSX4 a real emulator or a fake?

Here’s what you need to know about PCSX4, Orbital, and PS4 emulators on PC.

Is there any PS4 emulator on PC that can play the game?

The answer is no. Current of 2019 and PlayStation 4 emulator on PC is not possible. If you’re familiar with hardware emulation, this shouldn’t be a surprise. Creating emulators requires learning what the hardware of the machine (PS4) does when running the game, and rewriting those features entirely on another platform, like a Windows PC. If you’re a console techie, you might be thinking something like, “The PS4 hardware is actually very similar to the PC. Shouldn’t it be easier to emulate?” The answer is yes and no. PS4 uses x86 architecture, just like PC. But the machine’s graphics card is a monster, in addition, the software and the center inside are obviously a lot more complicated than the previous generation hardware. This doesn’t mean PS4 emulation can’t happen – it’ll just take time, and not yet.

What about the PS4 emulator videos you find on YouTube?

PCSX4 is a fake PS4 emulator

PCSX2 is a real PS2 emulator and it’s great. PCSX4 is a fake name. ‘s website PCSX4 has an impressive look, with attached YouTube videos, Q&A and a Github page containing the code for this “semi-open source” project. The FAQ section looks convincing, it also lists errors, but hardware requirements make users suspicious. PS4 emulator will need a lot more powerful configuration than what PCSX4 mentioned. You’ve probably come across this type of survey before. They often say you can win a new iPhone or something, but after clicking for a few minutes, they take you to another survey. Someone is making money on your time, and you’re not getting what you’re promised. Do not waste time. PCSX4 is just a scam, and indeed there are PS4 emulators out there that you should try.

Orbital is a real PS4 emulator in early development

Don’t expect too much – this PS4 emulator can’t run God of War or Spider-Man on PC. As of early 2019, it wasn’t advanced enough to run any games. Orbital’s development team https://www.patreon.com/AlexAltea is in the process of learning the hardware and code of the PS4 and is working on simple solutions for testing on PC. Developer Alex Altea detailed this emulation process in the following Reddit post.

Unfortunately, while development is still ongoing, it will be many years before Orbital can run the game. Maybe the market will appear different PS4 emulators with different methods or faster development. But for now, we only have Orbital.

If you really want to play PS4 games on your PC, then Sony’s PlayStation Now is your only choice.
