PlayerUnknown is no longer focusing on developing PUBG, moving on to other projects

Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene announced his plans to leave his beloved game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. He will move to another division of PUBG Corp to focus on research and development of other game projects.

In a letter to fans on social media, he said he is still the consulting director for PUBG but that development will be handled by another member of the team, who he has worked with for the past three years. .

His new team is based in Amsterdam instead of Seoul, South Korea, with the mission of “exploring, testing and creating new technologies, tools and gameplay” for PUBG Corp.

PlayerUnknown became one of the most famous game developers in the world thanks to the explosion of PUBG in 2017. PlayerUnknown became not only the face of the game but also the studio PUBG Corp. Every time PUBG holds a big tournament like Gamescom, PlayerUnknown is always the one to give awards, give autographs and meet fans.

While PUBG isn’t as glorious as it once was, we can’t deny its influence on the battle royale genre, as well as PlayerUnknown itself. Without PUBG, games like Fortnite and Apex Legends might never have been created.

PUBG remains one of the most played games on Steam, and the mobile version of the game is hugely popular in Asia. Therefore, PlayerUnknown needs to prove a lot in his new product if it is to overcome PUBG’s shadow.
