As Fortnite Battle Royale continues to dominate the world of video games, more parents are starting to invest in trainings like sports and other subjects.
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, parents are spending $10 to $20 per hour so their kids can level up and level up in Fortnite.
“The pressure here is not just to play the game, but to really master it,” said Ally Hicks, who bought four hours of lessons for her 10-year-old son.
Epic Games has really dug a goldmine with Fortnite’s free-to-play model.
In Fortnite, the player will have to compete with 99 other players and win by being the last one standing. The game has now entered its fifth season, available on PC, Xbox One, PS4, IPhone and Nintendo Switch.
Players can purchase skins as well as accessories such as paragliders, pickaxes, backpacks, and emotes with V-Bucks (the in-game currency). These additional items, while not giving any competitive advantage in the game, still bring Epic a huge revenue stream.
Last week, as reported by Bloomberg, Fortnite was about to bring in its parent company $2 billion in 2018.
Popularity of the game titlee has also been bolstered by its success on Twitch, a video game streaming service. Famous streamers like Ninja, Dr. Lupo, TSM Myth and FaZe Tfue all play the game at a high level, and now parents are trying to make it possible for their kids to play at the same level as those streamers.
In some schools, this really works. Nick Mennen told the Wall Street Journal that his 12-year-old son, Noble, struggled to win Fortnite.
“And now he can easily get 10 to 20 wins,” Mennen said.
The need for trainers is likely to continue to grow according to the latest updates from Epic.
