Panicked with Death Stranding’s inventory, the discount is to sell off?

After a rough breakup with Konami, Hideo Kojima turn to work together Sony to develop Death Stranding. Massively promoted, promising to be a completely different blockbuster of the year, but the game was not as successful as expected. Some give Death Stranding winged compliments for its unique and creative gameplay while others think the game experience is somewhat boring, like a walking simulator. The game’s sales also made Sony heavily disappointed when it still had more than 3 million copies in stock up to the present time.

According to a source from Dusk Golem – a manager of the Resetera forum, Death Stranding is a big disappointment for Sony when sales do not meet initial expectations. In fact, there are still more than 3 million copies in stock. Unsettled development seems to be the main cause of this failure. It is known that Death Stranding as intended by Kojima was a much “dark and scary” game, but then the game idea was changed and only developed hastily for about 1.5 years before before debut.

Dusk Golem also said that Sony and Kojima Productions inherently had a lot of disagreements during the development process because Sony did not pay attention to investment in Death Stranding. This explains why the game ended up not getting a chance to land on PS5 even though it was almost completely demolished and rebuilt.

The source also said that Sony is on the way to negotiating with Konami to get funding for a project Silent Hill new, and will then hand over the main development to Kojima Productions. The reason is that the investment budget for a horror game will not cost much, plus Kojima’s reputation already with this series, so the chance of success is very high.

Although there is no evidence to prove that this information is true, it is completely understandable that Sony is disappointed with Death Stranding when sales of the game have never broken any records like Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizon: Zero Dawn or God of War have done it. Currently, the game is heavily discounted on online stores like Amazon or Walmart, presumably to try to consume inventory.

Death Stranding is now available on PS4 and the PC version will be released on June 2.​
