Only 1 line of code, gamers have fixed the error that appeared in Super Mario 64 for more than 20 years

As the pioneer version in the transition to 3D platform, Super Mario 64 really ushered in a new era for the universe Mario. Even nearly 25 years have passed, game making technology is much more modern, Super Mario 64 still maintains a certain number of players, some even working hard to break records in the game. However, there was a small error that appeared in the game but no one discovered until now.

Gamer and Twitter user @BlazeHedgehog started noticing something was wrong every time Mario jumped out of a fire and released a cloud of smoke behind him. The problem is that the smoke design in the game is not beautiful at all, it is just simple and messy pixel dots. After reviewing the game’s code, BlazeHedgehog realized that this was actually a bug, not a design idea by the developers. So he tweaked that line of code, and indeed, the visual effect has completely changed.

“Haha, what the hell is this. After editing a line of code in Super Mario 64, I realized that the smoke that comes out whenever Mario is exposed to fire is actually faulty design and has been around for over 20 years. The photo on the left is before editing and on the right is edited,” BlazeHedgehog wrote on his personal page.

Really, this bug is so small that it’s not worth mentioning, but it’s quite surprising that nearly 25 years since the game was released, no one has noticed, the developer also ignores the fix. A patch is available, but for many people they still prefer the buggy version because it’s so familiar.

On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario franchise, there is news Nintendo is planning to remake the entire Super Mario Bros. series of games. for Nintendo Switch and Super Mario 64 are most likely on this list. Wondering what the smoke would look like in the graphical makeover?
